The council's appeal against the tribunal's ruling was heard in by the Employment Appeals Tribunal earlier this month and I wanted you to be among the first to know that the Appeals Tribunal has now published its judgement and has overturned the earlier judgement and found in favour of the council.

Hungary Says Yes, No, Maybe to Gay Marriage
Hungary's Constitutional Court has annulled a law giving rights to domestic partners stating it would diminish the importance of marriage.

Passed by parliament a year ago, the law would have allowed unmarried or gay couples to register their domestic relationships beginning Jan.1, 2009. Read more

Equality bill survives pruning of Queen's Speech that could spell early election

The government has dropped two planned bills and merged several others that had been announced in the draft Queen's Speech earlier this year. The Equality Bill, which contains important provisions to promote equality for lesbian, gay and bisexual people, has survived the cull and will be brought forward next year. Read more

Give gay couples legal partnerships, MEPs ask Bulgaria

Euro MPs have called on the Bulgarian goverment to extend civil partnerships to gay and lesbian couples.

Bulgaria joined the EU in 2007. Its parliament is considering a new draft of the Family Code which introduces civil partnerships into Bulgarian law, but only between a man and a woman. Read more

Today is gay wedding day in Connecticut as same-sex marriages begin

A judge in Connecticut will today enter the final judgment in a case that allows same-sex marriages.

California Voters Pass Gay Marriage Ban

California voters have approved a constitutional amendment outlawing same-sex marriage that overturns the state Supreme Court decision that gave gay couples the right to wed just months ago.

The passage of Proposition 8 represents a crushing political defeat for gay rights activists. They had hoped public opinion on the contentious issue had shifted enough to help them defeat the measure.

It also represents a personal loss for the thousands of couples from California and others states who got married in the brief window when they could. Legal experts have said it will have to be resolved in court whether their unions still are valid.

Connecticut gays can get married from November 12th
A judge in Connecticut has scheduled a hearing for the morning of November 12th to enter the final judgment in a case that allows same-sex marriages. Read more


Gay marriage begins next month in Connecticut
Same-sex couples will be able to pick up marriage licence applications in the US state of Connecticut from November 10th.

The Supreme Court of Connecticut overturned a ban on gay marriage earlier this month, ruling that by stopping same sex partners from marrying was a violation of their constitutional rights. Read more

Barack Obama has a 58-point lead over John McCain among LGBT voters, according to a recent public opinion poll.

Registered LGBT voters favour Senator Barack Obama over Senator John McCain 68% to 10%, with 3% of LGBT adults supporting Ralph Nader and 1% choosing Bob Barr.

Californian gay couple filed for divorce after just three days of marriage. The first divorce of a gay couple in California was filed just three days after they married, court records have revealed.

Theresa Ramirez and Adelita Guajardo of Fresno County, Califronia married on 27th June 2008 and filed for divorce on the 30th. Read more
