Civil Partnerships in Churches
From the 5th December Civil Partnerships will be available in churches around the UK. There is a lot of work to do but as the story unfolds about how this is possible and what is involved, we will keep you updated every step of the way
For now we know Churches can apply to hold Civil Partnerships in their church and become approved by the registration service. Once granted a Civil Partnership license they will be able to perform a Civil Partner ceremony

2010 Civil Partnership Stats announced
The number of civil partnerships formed in the UK by same-sex couples was 6,385 in 2010 compared with 6,281 in 2009. This represents a very small increase of 1.7 per cent between 2009 and 2010 read more
New York Senate Approves Same-Sex Marriage
With recent events from the LGBT Leadership Gala, New York Gay Pride and the Summer edition of Pink Weddings Magazine – New York has become the hot topic for June and this welcomed and timely announcement adds to the excitement. Governor Andrew Cuomo's bill to give gay couples the right to wed was approved by New York lawmakers, making the U.S. state the sixth and most-populous to legalize same-sex marriage. Read more

In Chicago, gay and straight couples are flocking to the Cook County Clerk's downtown office of records to acquire the state's first civil union licenses - June 1st. Read more
First Irish public civil partnerships take place
Ireland's first public civil partnership ceremonies were due to take place this afternoon.
The law came into force on January 1st, although the vast majority of couples were required to give three months notice of their intent to tie the knot. Read more
Isle of Man gay couples get right to civil partnership
Gay couples on the Isle of Man will get the right to a civil partnership after a new law was signed in Tynwald. It gives them the same rights as married couples regarding inheritance, pensions and tax allowances. The law comes into effect on 6 April. Civil partnerships gained legal recognition in the UK in 2005. Read more
French court says no to gay marriage
France's constitutional court upheld the ban on gay marriage today after a challenge from a lesbian couple.
Corinne Cestino and Sophie Hasslauer, who have lived together for 15 years and have four children, asked for the right to marry but were turned down by the Constitutional Council. Read more
