Our Opinion

Grand houses and grand attractions make Somerset a place for historical venues.

Profile

The towns are interesting; the villages and hamlets, built mostly of local stone, are attractive; the many manor houses date from Tudor and Georgian times; many of the churches are of architectural merit and have the handsome towers for which Somerset is famous.

The District has excellent recreational amenities including Yeovil Country Park, Yeovil Recreation Centre, the Octagon Theatre, Goldenstones Leisure Centre and Ham Hill Country Park and the rivers provide some of the best coarse fishing in England.

Located midway between the English and Bristol Channels, Somerset covers 370 square miles populated by 142,000 people. The area is predominantly an agricultural area with a diverse countryside of unspoilt and well-wooded scenery.
